Happy early Father’s Day! I have some cool gift ideas and tips for those who are looking for the perfect gift for dad.

First and foremost dad is probably looking a little scruffy right now and probably needs a haircut badly. Set him up with a men’s cut at the Aveda Institute, there he will receive a nice scalp, neck and shoulder massage, then a nice shampoo and conditioning scalp treatment, finally a haircut of his choice.

We have a nice selection of men’s products from Aveda like the men’s pure-formance shampoo’s and conditioner’s. If he’s more into his beard we also have a shaving cream that gives a nice close shave following with a dual action aftershave that moisturizes but controls oils.

Makeup Skills I’ve Learned At Aveda Institutes Florida Beauty School

At Aveda I have learned how to properly apply makeup. I learned how to match makeup with the correct skin tones and properly blend foundation and blush. I have never put on anyone’s foundation or blush before, because I was not sure how to apply it. Aveda taught me how to properly place blush on the right areas of the cheek bone and the proper amount to apply.

I also learned a smokey eye, which is my favorite makeup application. Creating a cat eye was another technique I learned at Aveda, using an eyeliner or mixing toner with black eyeshadow to create eyeliner. Then stroking the eyeliner outward, thickening the liner as it nears the outer corners of the eye to create the cat eye. At Aveda I’ve learned how, in the past few weeks, to apply make up to someones face: from the tinted moisturizer to how to give the effect of a smokey eye. I honestly am in love with the smokey eye! With the right color it can make your eyes pop but also give you a sassy effect.

Smokey usually means blacks and greys and I do tie those in, but considering my eyes are green I like to throw some deeper purples in there so it intensifies my real color. Then with the darker on top and a thin strip under the lashes on the bottom gives a great highlighting effect. I have big eyes so tha’ts usually my focal point. Beauty schools (in my area) are different from Aveda because…..
Comparing any other school to The Aveda Institute is like comparing an eagle to a pigeon. One is simply more intriguing than the other. Aveda is like the Marines of hair. They give the strength and skills needed to really grasp and understand the concept at hand: hair (as well as many other useful skills.)

Other institutes may seem ok, but is your future just OK to you? Do you see yourself being an average Joe hair stylist? Or do you see yourself being an AVEDA stylist. Really sort out the Pros and Cons of this type of comparison. Because when it comes to your career, you can’t settle for less.

1. Staff, Aveda’s faculty and staff all together are more than you need to help you. Not because they have to, but because they actually want to. At Aveda you will feel the warmth and love endlessly from everybody. They really care about you, your future, and your opinions. At “other” institutes there is no way they can come close to matching how many people at Aveda are truly there to guide you.

2. Discipline, Who said that you can’t have fun and enjoy your school environment while still obtaining the discipline you need? At Aveda, they strive and go out of there way to make sure your prepared for this industry with a smile. They share the necessary knowledge of strength while not making you wish you hadn’t come to school. You will want to come to school! And that’s a good feeling!

3. Skills, At Aveda, you are the cream of the crop. You walk into any salon and say “Yes, I graduated from Aveda.” And I guarantee you will have uplifting feed back. You learn not just about hair, but about your environment, beauty, nails and the world we live in. Aveda is the most up to date institute I’ve ever attended. They give you the classic skills that have been passed down from our founding hair fathers, to the newly found discoveries we find every day.

Honestly, Aveda is life changing. For the better good of today, tomorrow, and years to come. I live my life with Peace, Love, and Aveda.

When searching for the best Cosmetology school there are many important factors to consider. One of the first things to keep in mind is cost. No matter how great a school seems, it probably isn’t right for you if you have no way to pay for it. Also, where is the school located? Will it be necessary to relocate or commute? And what kind of reputation does the school have?

Take a look at the skill levels of those who graduate from each school. Are they artists and masters of their craft, or do they only possess the most basic skills? Find out about the curriculum. Is it very structured, or do lessons happen in a more organic way?

The Tuff Love Hair Show was an inspiring and educational event that truly and successfully conveyed what it takes to be the best you can be at your craft.

One, from the many, strong messages that stuck with me is that talent is not just something your born with. Talent is something you achieve by practice, practice, and then more practice.

What makeup skills have you learned at your Aveda Florida Beauty School?

I love applying makeup. I love the different face shapes to work with. I love how everyone needs a different type of liner to suit their eye shape. I love how a dramatic lips can change the whole vibe of a person. I’ve been at Aveda for around 5 months, and I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks I’d like to pass along. Maybe these will help you out as well, or at least give you a confidence boost.

First off, EVERYONE has a different face shape. No two faces are the same. Work with what you have. If you have a round face, apply a bit of contour along your jawline and and in the hallows of your cheekbones. You can establish where your cheekbones are by making a fishy face, or rolling a powder brush sideways on your cheek. The color should be about one or two shades darker than your regular foundation/powder – You don’t want it to be noticeable. This tip really works with all face shapes though- to make something appear smaller, you apply the contour. To make something stand out (say, the bridge of your nose, the brow bone, or above your cheekbones), add a highlight- a very verrrrry subtle shimmer is perfect for this.

I’m also a huge fan of eyeliner. I’ve been rocking it since I was in middle school, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Eyeliner is one of the most versatile ways to change your look. To start with- colors make a difference. If you have brown eyes, you can use blue, purple, green, well, really, any color eyeliner. Green eyes look great with purple of any shade. Blue eyes are gooooorgeous with gold tones- brown, bronze, whatever. If you’re partial to black, though, like myself, you can change the shape and change your whole face. If you have small eyes, you’re going to want to line all the way across the top lid, and dab some highlighter in the corner of your eyes, near your nose. This will open your eyes up and make them look brighter. Big round eyes can be made to look smaller by staying thin on the inner eye area and gradually making the line thicker in the corners. A cat eye helps too- Just flick the eyeliner up. My trick is to pretend like you’re going to draw a line from the outer corner of your eye to the end of your eyebrow. It’s a good way to keep the angle similar.

For a big night out though, it’s go big or go home. You know what I’m talking about- Lipstick. A lot of people are afraid of lipstick, but it’s just a matter of knowing what tone your skin is, and proper application. Pale girls look best in peachy tones. Olive skinned ladies look great in true reds. And for the deeper toned mamas, berry and maroon are beautiful. To apply, and make it last, start by adding a thin layer of translucent powder to your lips. Follow this with lip-liner. Apply the lipstick (it’s easier to stay in the lines using a brush, fyi!) and then blot. Apply your second coat now. Slick on some gloss, and hit the road.

I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg in makeup application, but I hope it will encourage you to try a few new little things the next time you put on your face. Just Google things, and experiment. It’s all about feeling good, so throw caution to the wind and mix it up. You’ll look beautiful regardless.

When you finally make the decision, “I’m going to go to cosmetology school!”, your next hard decision is finding which school is best for you. When making this decision, there are many factors to look for in order to pick the right one. First off, you want to pick a school with products that you love. If you don’t love and believe in your products, you will have a much harder time selling them, and product sales play a huge factor in our industry. You also want to find a school with hours that work best for your schedule. If you pick a school that has hours that don’t fit as well around your schedule, than you are more likely to miss out on days, and miss out on your education. Most importantly, pick a school that you are going to be getting the most out of AND be happy at. Great educators, Mission Statement, supplies, outside school hour activities, and opportunities for job placement are all factors you want to look into to ensure that the school that you pick will be a great and enjoyable experience for you. When I first came to Aveda the first thing I noticed was the professionalism of the school itself. Sure its hard, but anything worth having is worth working for. You should always look for a cosmetology school that will provide you with the best opportunities possible. A place that will open innumerable doors of possibilities. A place were the sky is the limit. I see that with Aveda. It turns professional people out with a possibility to reach the goals they’re shooting for. Before enrolling into Aveda Institute, I was working as part-time bartender in a restaurant. I decided to quit my job and jump into a full year of cosmetology school. I wanted to pursue a career path that would allow me to be creative. Styling hair is an art and is very rewarding in a creative sense. It is like creating music, only the instrument is the shear and the music is the finished haircut.

I’ve always been into makeup and attracted to styling hair. One reason I chose this career is that I was able to have the chance to make people beautiful. Having the possibilities to see how people look before I start to work on them and after I have completed the work. Then I can let them see the results first hand and that transformation could be stunning.

The best thing about cosmetology school you have the chance to help set a new trend. Being able to set the new trend could be a good thing. Having the opportunity to talk friends, co-workers and to new guests throughout the entire day is amazing. Knowing that I can be working side-by-side with other stylists, helping celebrities look their best for the camera, or doing the hair and makeup for your clients while they share new, interesting details about their lives, being a stylist is mostly about people.

I wanted a career that has flexibility and creativity and cosmetology has both of these options. I would never consider cosmetology as work because it’s my passion and something I love doing. It’s something I can see myself doing long term and maybe for the rest of my life. Cosmetology is a field that is constantly changing with current trends and I like the idea that there is always something to be learned in the field even after I graduate from Aveda Institute. The knowledge will not only benefit my future clients, but myself as well.

Aveda Beauty Schools Raising Money For Earth Month

As you know April is Earth Month and Aveda is raising month to provide clean water to a village in India – among other organizations. In this village young girls must walk 7 miles to retrieve water, and even then it’s not clean, healthy, great tasting water.

Here at the Orlando Institute we will be having a Fashion Show with the theme “Current” to raise money. This event will be held April 29th. So come by show your support. Don’t forget to come in and purchase Stress Effects candles where all the proceeds go towards helping provide clean water to those in need.

It is important for companies like Aveda to be environmentally aware because every effort, no matter how big or small, that is put in by those companies, helps protect the Earth. Just by doing something as simple as a bake sale or school-wide raffle to raise money really makes a difference. Aveda also takes bigger steps than that, such as basing their power source off of wind rather than less environmentally conscious sources.

Aveda also has separate bins for garbage, plastic, glass, etc., placed around the school so that every object that gets disposed is put in the proper disposal bin. All of these things make a difference to the Earth!

Earth Month is a very big month for fundraising at the Aveda Institutes. We are currently raising money for multiple charities like, ‘Kids need clean water” and Global Green Fund. At our institute we have thought of many creative ways to help raise money for those in need.

We have had food sales, palm readings, beauty days, and of course we are throwing a huge fashion show at the beginning of May. All of the AVEDA Florida Institutes will be having a fashion show – so be sure to check with the Institute closest to you for tickets sales and dates.

The proceeds will go to benefit those charities and have been a huge success in the past. Here at Aveda we stick to our mission when fund rasing. We stay away from car washes or anything where water is wasted or the environment would be affected because here at Aveda “We care for the world we live in“.
