Starting out at Aveda, I wasnt sure of what to expect. What would I learn, what would help me in the real world, how much knowledge am I learning here that would put me ahead of the game? Because of the name I had high expectations, and they were exceeded by a land slide.

In the first 11 weeeks, you learn all the basics. Everything from how to do a correct pontytail, to your first haircut. You are introduced to the amazingly well thought out and and environmentally friendly hair color line, as well as all of the other AVEDA products you will use and how they are made.

As you move up in the phases, you learn how to look at peoples heads and create shapes to fit their faces and head sizes. I never have seen a mens haircut done in sections, where the shape of the man’s head and the imperfections on his scalp can be covered up by all the different cutting techniques and hand positions. As I am moving up, one other thing I have noticed is the affection and genuine care you recieve from your educators. They really want us to succeed and to be amazing hairstylists. They really motivate you when you are feeling anxious or hesitasnt about your abilities.

The color line here at Aveda is very intense and can be very intimidating when first coming in contact with it. It was so well thought out and there are so many components, that a lot of us in class were questioning if we were ready for this. But with the help of our educators and directors it has become second nature to all of us, and I would never want to use a different color line.

Tammy, our universal theory teacher is instilling so much knowledge and confidence in us that I am very excited to take my State board test and become an Aveda Institute trained Hairstylist.

I have learned so much and I still have 2 1/2 phases left to go. The Masters program here is the smartest thing I have ever heard of. We will have so much real life salon expierence when graduating from here, that we can focus on being confident in our abilities. I think AVEDA Florida Institute Beauty School’s should be on the top of everyones list.

First and foremost Aveda is different from other brands not only for their products, but also for their expert skills and techniques. All of Aveda products are at least 97% naturally plant derived, which means they are made mostly of plants and natural materials which come from the earth.

I was surprised to learn that many of the products I was using on my hair such as shampoos and styling products were actually damaging to my hair and very high in ph. I have also noticed that spending more for the products have paid off because they are more concentrated than store bought products and they last a great deal longer.

When I finally decided on attending a beauty school it was no longer hard for me to look any further to make my decision. After touring various schools in the area and seeing how their curriculum was not what I was looking for – it didn’t take very long for me to make a decision on the school for me.

I have always had a passion for hair since I was a very little girl, the love for it never left. Once I graduated from high school I found myself visiting a beauty school just about every year. I would go to speak with someone from admissions and even go as far a taking a tour. Out of all the schools that I toured Aveda was the one I felt was meant to be the place for me.

I have enjoyed my experience so far, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for me. From your first phone call you receive from someone in admissions, to you first tour, orientation, and up to the point of becoming a student at Aveda – you are able to see what a wonderful experience it is. Just the fact of being able to go to school each day and know that you have educators that are there not just to educate you but to help guide you along the way is a great feeling. The experience itself says enough.

Thinking of choosing a cosmetology career choice? Awesome, great career choice you get to make people feel better about themselves and live the life only dreams are made of, well, at least my dreams…but lets get real – cosmotology is a great career choice.

The awesome energy in the salons, the happy guests that are in and out all day, and getting to do what you love if that’s why you are doing it…which brings me to my next point, do it because you love it, because it’s your passion because that is what makes you happy.

It can be for several different reasons but the main one is PASSION!

Sure, the money can be great and there are of course perks, but life is short, if you want a career in cosmotology, because that’s what you love, go for it!

I began at Aveda Institute of Tallahassee in Nov. 2011 A long lost dream finally coming true! I couldn’t have picked a better place to persue either. Aveda is my dream come true, and I guess my advice to you is don’t put your dream off do what you love and there really is no better place to start than Aveda.

Make sure you find the place for you where your dreams come true. GO COS!

AVEDA's Invati Line Mentioned In The Adele Vogue Magazine Issue

My new favorite Aveda product, or products shall I say, would have to be the whole Invati line. I purchased some from school to bring home to my husband. I must say we both are liking the product line so far. I see that his hair seems to look a lot thicker.

He normally wears his hair cut low but since we have been using the product line on his hair he’s been wearing it longer now. I personally like the new look (smile). I think a lot of people out there will enjoy the Invati products, not just one, but all.

The Aveda Institute stood out to me because of its reputation and the atmosphere that I felt just by being in the school.

When I first visited I noticed how most of the classes where having hands on training with real clients rather than just gaining experience only on a mannequin.

Just by watching the other students and thinking of how they where in my shoes at one point and now are changing lives while still being in school inspired me to attend cosmetology courses at AVEDA. I knew that that was exactly what I wanted and AVEDA was what I needed to learn everything I could about being a great hairstylist. Pluss AVEDA allows me to have a chance to build clientele when going through the program. To me that was very impressive because I know that the best way to learn is hands on practice. The vibe of the school was gushing with a positive and professional atmosphere that made me want to jump behind a a chair and get started right away.

With professionalism comes a good reputation, which drew me to setting up an appointment to enroll as soon as I possibly could. I had checked out a few other schools and was unsure of what I wanted, but as soon as I walked through those glass doors, I could tell by the grin on my face that I had found the school that I would build my career and passion.

AVEDA's Lash Abundance

I have been waiting, waiting, waiting for a lash serum from Aveda and here it is!!! Lash Abundance was recently released (much to the joy and adoration of the perpetually petite lashed) and I just got my hands on a tube of it not fifteen minutes ago.

My first experience with cosmetology as an art was during my high school education.

I attended a vocational high school which afforded me the opportunity to experience what, at that time, was a traditional cosmetology program similar to what might be offered at a technical college. Rather than choose cosmetology as a career upon graduation I attended Penn State and earned a B.S. in Political Science.

After spending time working in the legal field I decided to return to my first love, cosmetology.

That process involved visits to several schools and careful analysis of the programs offered. The Aveda Institute at St. Petersburg stood head and shoulders above the rest, not only because of the curriculum offered, but also because the students are expected to perform at a “college” level.

Aveda employs “12 points of difference” within its network of salons and also with the educational curriculum offered to students. By being afforded the opportunity to participate in programs like the Masters program as part of my education, upon graduation I will have had the unique opportunity to experience working in an actual salon environment.

This experience makes me extremely marketable to prospective employers, and gives me the opportunity to build my book of clientele before I graduate rather than after – an amazing point of difference with this program!

Invati Set From AVEDA

Have you used the new Invati system yet? It’s kind of amazing.

The wintergreen-derived salicylic acid in the shampoo feels so invigorating on the scalp. The acid also dissolves build-up from product, dirt, and oil.

Over time this build-up can cause hair follicles to become clogged, producing less hair.

Detoxifying the scalp leaves the follicles nice and clean. While it doesn’t necessarily grow more hair, it does allow the hair you have to grow through newly exfoliated follicles.

Several weeks ago I purchased the Invati line for my fiance, whose hair has begun receding. I can already tell his hair is starting to get thicker.

Whenever I began to tour cosmetology schools so that I could follow my dreams I had two or three in mind… Aveda and two others that shall remain nameless for professional purposes.

I am a mother of three and currently reside in Altha, Fl, so there are certain things I was interested in when choosing my school where I would begin the rest of my life…

Structure because I already live in chaos…lol.

Second, how far from home I would be; with three babies at home you have to be reachable.

Lastly, I wanted to be somwhere where I felt that I could learn to the best of my abilities and be sourrounded by other people that are positive, caring, and want to help me do my best. Out of all the schools that I toured I felt that Aveda met all three of my requirements and yes there are others that are closer, but they didn’t feel right.

In my experience so far at Aveda I feel that I made the right choice. They are structured, the educators are positive, reinforcing, stern, but fun and caring, and I’ve already learned so much more than I thought that I would by now.

It goes by so fast. The other schools I looked at well lets just say I said NO NO NO! There was no structure and no class.

In conclusion you have to make your own decision about what you want and how bad you want it and the path you choose to get there – my Path was Aveda!

Hands On Experience During Fashion Shows

When I decided to drastically change career paths at the age of 34, from the corporate world, to the world of beauty, I needed to make sure that I chose a school that would start me off with the best reputation possible.

I Googled cosmetology schools and many were listed, Aveda being one of the top 2. So, I began to ask myself, what did I find lacking in my personal salon experiences and therefore what would I like to learn in order to provide a service better than what I was accustomed to receiving.

Because I am not a very high maintenance person, I dont really know what I should be doing or asking of my hair, and therefore what to tell my stylist I want, and whenever I asked for recommendations, the stylist never provided much insight.

When I began to read about Aveda, the first thing that captured my attention was “hands on experience” which I felt was very important because everyone is different. A mannequin head can only teach you so much. Skin tone, bone structure, hair type are a few factors that I know make a hair style look good or bad on a person, and because I treat others the way I would like to be treated, I wanted to learn these details in order to recommend the best possible look for my client.

So once I discovered that Aveda not only taught all of these things, but was also environmentally friendly, which again matched my life motto, the decision became easier. Then, when I discovered that Aveda not only taught its students to cut, but to consult by asking key questions that will help the stlyist recommend the appropriate style based on the clients personal routine, hair condition, ability to maintain look, etc. the decision became very clear.

Then, when I contacted the school, the representative was attentive, followed up with me within a few days and interviewed me, which made me feel that not just anyone can get into Aveda, and therefore held high standards because they value the power of their name and want serious professionals to carry their brand.

My advice to anyone thinking of entering the cosmetology industry would be to ask yourself, “do you want to know how to be a hair cutter, or a hair consultant?” The difference is night and day. Aveda’s curriculum will not only teach you the latest cut and styling techniques, but their education on customer service, product knowledge and ability to run your own salon, is going to make you stand out from the rest.

This school is for someone that understands the impact a consultant can make in a persons life. It may be the boost of confidence that client needed to go out and apply for a job they once felt was above them. It may be a shy, insecure persons new perspective of their self worth.

Aveda’s curriculum asks for its students to be concerned with the clients best interest, and if done correctly, their name will help you stand out from the rest and provide a financial freedom that you determine off your own efforts and good intent.
