My first experience with cosmetology as an art was during my high school education.
I attended a vocational high school which afforded me the opportunity to experience what, at that time, was a traditional cosmetology program similar to what might be offered at a technical college. Rather than choose cosmetology as a career upon graduation I attended Penn State and earned a B.S. in Political Science.
After spending time working in the legal field I decided to return to my first love, cosmetology.
That process involved visits to several schools and careful analysis of the programs offered. The Aveda Institute at St. Petersburg stood head and shoulders above the rest, not only because of the curriculum offered, but also because the students are expected to perform at a “college” level.
Aveda employs “12 points of difference” within its network of salons and also with the educational curriculum offered to students. By being afforded the opportunity to participate in programs like the Masters program as part of my education, upon graduation I will have had the unique opportunity to experience working in an actual salon environment.
This experience makes me extremely marketable to prospective employers, and gives me the opportunity to build my book of clientele before I graduate rather than after – an amazing point of difference with this program!

Cosmetology has always been on my mind but the fear of financial stability always forced me to look the other direction.
The medical field was always known for their financial stability and so thats where I was headed. The day I finally came to tour Aveda and interviewed with a staff member, she made me realize that in cosmetology, you could be just as successful financially.
I loved the fact that she asked me these questions and made sure I was comfortable with the school before I applied.
Being so far in the program, and being so busy with clients helps me feel confident that if I continue doing what I do best, hopefully my future will be as bright as those who work in the medical field.
If you feel confident in this field, come here and do it. You’ll have so much fun and meet new people wheather it be customers or class mates. You won’t regret going into this field.
Aveda is professional and I love that it is earth friendly, and there products are amazing. I think the educators are caring and really want the students to succeed.
I am so happy I choose Aveda and I want to continue to stick with Aveda when I graduate. I will also suggest Aveda to anyone who is interested in going to beauty school.
It is a very upscale environment , everybody is super friendly and caring towards each other, including students and teachers. I love that is very fashionable and high end when it comes to style and the way they do there hair.
