Q&A with Florida Beauty School Students

by Aveda Institute Orlando on January 31, 2012

AVEDA Florida beauty schoolI wanted potential students who were thinking about going to any of the AVEDA Florida beauty schoolsJacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando, St. Petersburg, South Florida ( which really includes the Ft. Lauderdale and Miami area) – an idea of what some of our currently enrolled cosmetology and spa therapy students had to say about their most positive experiences from their beauty school and why they are proud they chose AVEDA Florida as their beauty school of choice to earn their certificate in Cosmetology or Spa Therapy.  To not confuse anyone – when I mention Spa Therapy I am referring to Estheticians and Massage Therapist that are both under our Spa Therapy course.

Q: Which beauty school location do you go to and what was one of your favorite days you had while attending that AVEDA Florida beauty school?

A: by Aveda Institute Jacksonville Cosmetology student Melody Young My favorite day at Aveda so far has been when I did my brother’s girlfriend’s hair. She used to go to the salon that I assist at, but now she goes to me at the Institute. The day she came in she brought me coffee and I went to do her hair.  She let me style her hair however I wanted. I felt completely comfortable since she is my friend. We did a full highlight and I did concave graduation on her. She loved the highlights and the haircut. I felt like it was a good practice and a lot of fun because there wasn’t a lot of pressure from her. Her hair looked beautiful and she is coming back today. :)

My favorite day at Aveda had to be the day I did a partial foil with color inbetween on one of my guest. The guest told me she was up for a change and wanted to get rid of her “penny” colored hair. I asked her what color she wanted to be and she told me “I dont care, you do what you think will look good”. I pulled out my portfolio and showed her some different color reds I thought she would look good with. She pointed out some different reds she liked and I said ,”Ok I will surprise you”.

I did the partial and then I mixed up the color. I applied the color and we were waiting for it to process and she asked, “so what color did you decide to do?” I told her a red/violet and she said, “ooo sounds cute, we will just have to wait and see”. I shampooed her and then started drying her hair facing away from the mirror so she could not see what she looked liked.

Then when I was finshed I turned her around and she just sat there and looked at her self. And I said, “so do you like it?” She replied bac,  “oh my gosh I love it, I absolutely love it”. She wouldnt stop playing with her hair and smiling. She told me she would follow me to the salon I choose when I graduate and that I did an amazing job. It made me feel really great to know I could help some one feel beautiful and love there hair when they came into the institute hating there hair. To know she will follow me to the salon I choose when I graduated made me feel great!

It is extremely hard for me to pick my absolute favorite day here at Aveda, because everyday is just as valuable as the rest. When you are truly doing something you love to do, you always have a great day!

Just last week, I had my first color model. She was a former customer of mine from a previous job. I was excited and nervous all at once, then she had told me I needed to be quick because she had to go to work later that day. I was under a lot of pressure by this point. Not only was she in a hurry, but she also had super long and super curly hair!!! yikes!!! I chugged along as fast as I could and finished by the time my hair model had to leave… and she looked absolutely fabulous! Her reaction to her new look had definitely made this day my favorite day so far at Aveda.  There’s not a good way to put the feeling I had from her reaction into words properly, but all I could do was smile, knowing that she loved her new look that I had just given her.

The best day at Aveda so far would have to be the day we had our first assembly of our Intro phase. For my cosmetology phase, the school assembles once a week on a thursday to give annoucements etc. The day was the first time were introduced to a wellness with the rest of the school. When we take a wellness or a break it usually involves relaxing, snacking or having a stress relieving ritual, but that day we were dancing. The whole school was dancing to music followed by our lead educator, all the students were on their feet. Everyone was laughing and smiling. It just reminds us to not take everything too seriously and even though we work hard we still remember to have fun and love what we do.

My best day at Aveda thus far, would have to be the day I started my schooling here at Aveda! I was so excited to start a new chapter in my life and to know that I was going to be a part of something so special! I knew that I would be developing new friendships and that I would be obtaining the knowledge that I would need in the months to come to further my career and to help make me a professional in the spa industry.

The first day was very overwelming with all the information that we had to cover and all the new people that we got to meet. Looking back on that day, I can now say that I not only am obtaining the knowledge I need to be successful, but that I have also made those friends I knew I would make part of my family! We have all become a little family and for that I will forever be grateful to Aveda!

The next best day at Aveda will be the day I graduate, but it will also be one of the most sad days as well, because I will be saying good bye to some truly amazing indivduals!

My favorite day so far at Aveda had been, I guess you could say has been, a favorite week. Its the last week before Christmas. Everyone comes in for color or highlights… And I understand NOBODY want unsightly roots showing. For all the Holiday events you have office parties your spouse office party, Christmas pictures. All of these can be uploaded to Facebook and tagged within seconds right from the I Phone… Talk about pressure.. So I feel that many have to keep their hair looking its very best… that makes for a very busy week at the Aveda Institution… It was fun.
