My Path to Cosmetology School

by Ashleigh Dean on November 5, 2011

My interest in cosmetology started when I received my first Barbie doll, from that point on my life changed. Growing up I always had high aspirations for a career, I thought I was meant to be a lawyer and my love for cosmetology was just a hobby. Well, life had a different plan for me, I worked hard went to college and quickly decided being a lawyer was not what I wanted to do. As much as I like to argue relevance, I like to make people happy and feel good about themselves even more. So, I graduated college and got a job working as a recruiter and then as the HR person for a medical company.

For a while I loved my job, I loved the people, the patients, and the company but it just didn’t fulfill me. After two years I started to realize that even though I was great at my job, it was just that a job and I wanted a career. So, I left my HR job and took some time to reflect on what I should do with the rest of my life. All I knew is that I wanted to do something that was fun, that made other people happy, and most importantly something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. Suddenly I had an epiphany of me doing my Barbie’s hair, my sister’s hair, my friend’s hair and even my own hair and I realized that the career I was searching for was Cosmetology. I called the AVEDA School in Jacksonville the next day for information and it was the smartest and best decision I have ever made.
