There are definitely quite a few current as well as retro stars that are my style and cosmetology muse. I often channel them when at the AVEDA beauty school trying to create unique or classic styles. One, for example, would be Gwen Stefani. I absolutely love how she brings all different elements (current & retro) into her image. She loves to rock old pin-up hair styles from the 30′s and 40′s which I’m a huge fan of and would love to learn how to do myself as a cosmetologist. In one of her videos she even wears oldĀ 20′s style bleach blonde finger waves that were very “flapper-esque”. I was really into that because I’m obsessed with the whole “roaring 20′s” era anyhow.
Two more retro starlets who I admire are Betty Page and the infamous Marilyn Monroe. Betty Page was a pin-up girl who was very daring for her time but was best known for her long, wavy, dark hair and thick super blunt bangs; still extremely popular today and you can see it all over here in Miami, FL. Marilyn Monroe was a style icon in every sense of the word and probably best known for her glamorous hairstyles, fashions and accessories.
Katy Perry is a more recent rock star whose style choices I just can’t get enough of. She’s not afraid to express herself and clearly does not care if anybody disapproves…she’s going to be herself. From her latest candy pink hair to her bright blue hair in the past and outfits made entirely of real candy. These are the types of people that inspire me as an artist and stylist. I love color and individuals who are not afraid to use them to show the world who they really are.
