How I Discovered Cosmetology Aspirations

by Hollie Cushman on November 4, 2011

I have been doing my own color for 12 years now. I like really fun bright colors and have always enjoyed playing with color in my hair and others.

3 years ago I was living in Orlando and had an opportunity to attend The Premiere Hair Show convention. It was amazing. A bit of sensory overload but absolutely amazing. It was that feeling of being a kid in a candy store. I walked around the convention all day and was able to watch some great hair demonstrations, check out different products, and test out new cosmetology tools. At the time my interest in hair was strictly color. I received so many compliments on my hair that day, people were stopping me asking me if I got my hair done at the convention, who did the color, what salon do I go to. When I responded with I do my own color every person I talked to asked me what salon I work in?

This is what got me thinking…

I was always complimented on my color and it was something I was passionate about, so why haven’t I looked into cosmetology school?

From then on I started researching beauty schools and looking into the industry. I’m still convinced I’m going to end up a colorist since it what I’m most passionate about but I know that with the program at the AVEDA School Miami I might tap into other passions. This field has so much to offer. I like that with this career I can live anywhere and there is a world of opportunity. It is all what you make it and only you can hold yourself back.
