Making Guests Feel Comfortable

by Amber Lelkes on September 5, 2011

To make a guest feel comfortable in the salon, I’ve learned that in cosmetology, as as with everything, first impressions are key. The moment you interact with your guest, you want to greet them with a warm and welcoming smile and ‘hello.’ Make sure to intoduce yourself clearly so the guest will know your name and not be afraid to ask you a question.

Once the guest is in your chair, you want to keep making eye contact with them and listen to all of there concerns and questions. The more they know you interested and excited about their hair, the more trusting your stylist/guest relationship will be. If they seem timid or out of place, go out of your way to make them feel that they belong in the salon. Offering tea or water is also showing you are there for them and again makes them feel more relaxed.

Keeping good conversation throughout the service and making those connections with similar interests really sets the vibe for the entire service. We here at the AVEDA School in Florida are experts at this– Not only do you want to connect with them “hair wise” but find some neutral topics to talk about even if its just about how great their shoes are. Women always appreciate a compliment about accessories!

Be calm, smile and really make sure you are there for your guest and they will feel like they are at home.
