Budgets that help you stay fashion forward

by Samantha Blackman on September 29, 2011

Being fashion forward is an important step to becoming a professional cosmetologist. We are constantly asked our opinions on things regarding looks and image, so looking the part can only aid our efforts to be taken seriously in our chosen field. Everyone has a budget, large or small, and there are ways to stay within that budget and still look chic, polished, and fashion forward.

Look for things in your budget that are not necessary to your survival. Take a look at what you spend on restaurant food and drinks, lattes to go, or candy or snacks in the gas station. Getting those spending habits under control can easily allow you more breathing room to add to your wardrobe. Let’s say you don’t buy that $5 latte for a week, you’ve already saved at least $15-25 by cutting that alone, and there’s a new shirt or blouse (sale prices, people) to update your look.

Let’s say you grocery shop for the week and plan your meals rather than spending $8-$10 on lunch every day. There’s another good amount saved for some cute new skinny jeans or boots for the fall season. No matter how you spend your money, it’s always smart to take a look at where your money goes and reevaluate your priorities. Is that coffee or lunch really as important as cute clothes you can wear again and again? If so, enjoy it! If not, make a goal to cut back and enjoy more of what you love…being fashionable and fabulous.
