Being a fashion forward student on a budget

by Ashleigh Dean on September 26, 2011

Each student has their own individual fashion style, but each of our styles can easily rack up a hefty bill if we don’t shop carefully or use a little creativity. No matter your fashion style there’s always a way to find a great deal, as a matter fact some of my favorite pieces are the super cheap sale items I got lucky enough to find.

I think the key to staying fashionable on a budget is getting a few staple pieces at budget friendly stores like Ross, Marshals, TJ Max, or shopping the sale racks at your local department stores. Once you have your staple pieces you mix and match them and add accessories to create new and different looks that won’t break the bank. You can get cheap and versatile accessories from places like Charlotte Russe and Forever 21. Also don’t forget to get creative with what you already own, like sprucing up an old shirt by adding an iron on, sewing on some sequins, strategically ripping it, or even dying it.

So all in all you have to be willing to hunt for the bargains (which I find enjoyable), accessorize, and be creative. You have to wonder are you really fashion forward if you pay retail prices? Because anyone can do that, but being fashion forward on a budget, now that’s what I call talent!
