My Esthetician School Experience

by Jenna Chambless on May 2, 2011

My first best experience from school would have to be when I had my first African American client. I didn’t know how to do her hair or what I was doing. So I combed through her hair after her braids were taken out and there were puffs of hair coming out. After I did that, I took her to the bowl to shampoo her and when I came back the girl next to me said she swept up the hair I cut for me. I told her that was just from combing it, I hadn’t even started cutting. So I started to dry her hair out and I tried my best at straightening it and it was still a puff. She was running late so she just decided to take her wig out right there at the station and put it on. I didn’t want to be rude so I asked if she wanted me to help tuck her hair in. When I got back the guest in the chair next to me was laughing and the girl cutting had no clue what had just happened. I will never forget that day…lol. My second one would be the day I decided to cut all my hair off. I measured my hair right before I started school back at the end of September and from scalp to end, my hair was right at 2 feet long. By the time I cut it all off, my hair was about 26 inches long and right above my hips and I cut 12 inches of that completely off and donated it. So now I have a cute pixie cut that I found I have to do more work with than when my hair was long…lol. Now the last one was a little bit hard for me to figure out but I think I know what it was. It would have to be my first couple of days going. I got to meet new people, make some friends, and the teachers I had were funny and great. One had a laugh that made everyone laugh and the other was funny and reminded me of a female comedian I saw. It was fun couple of days and still is because I get to know more people and have a new educator every 11 weeks. I’ll probably have better experiences in the future but so far, those are my top 3 best experiences.
