My first experience would have to be overcoming that tricky curling iron. I had never used one quite so intricate, and I had never used one correctly in the past. Everyone around me was burning their hands as the instructor walked around with the burn spray. I made it a personal goal not to burn myself and get it right. I now find myself quite a wiz at it.
My second experience would have to be bringing models in. At first I was so nervous to work on a real person as opposed to the creepy mannequin head I had become accustom to. I kept thinking of all these horrid “what ifs” of possible things that could go wrong. Once the ball started rolling, so to speak, everything just came naturally. Its nice to receive feedback as you style or color the hair. You learn to engage in proper conversation and be a professional. I would choose working on a person over a mannequin any day.
My last experience that comes to mind is meeting all the interesting people who were in my class. Everyone is so different and dynamic. We explored what type of person everyone is through wellness exercises. You know you will be with these people through the program and you form a kind of family mentality. Everyone already has a passion in common, and thats why there here and you always have something to talk about.
