I just began the cosmetology program at the Aveda Institute three weeks ago. Over these few weeks in phase one, I have already learned countless techniques. The first week started off slowly, as we went over basic information and got to know our classmates. It didn’t take long to jump right in to working. Week two was already hands- on, as we performed our first one length hair cut on our mannequin. We also learned up dos, styling, and SRR treatments- both hand and scalp. As a class, were challenged to pass out ‘model cards’ to find someone to come to Aveda so we could style their hair, using one of the techniques we learned. It is now week 3 and today was model day. I was nervous to work on a real person instead of a mannequin, but I successfully achieved the style she wanted. Before I came here I knew that Aveda was all “green”, but when I arrived I realized how true they are to their misson. For example, Aveda just hosted “Cat Walk for Wate r” and all of the proceeds went to the Gulf Restoration Project. Aveda truely cares about their guests and giving back to the world.
