What makes you passionate about styling hair?

by Chas Stickney on March 30, 2011

My passion for hairstyling has grown so much more than when I started at AVEDA INSTITUTE ST. PETERSBURG. It was always an interest I kept in the back of my mind and my drive to do hair and make up grew stronger as I gave college a shot. I realized I’m a more free spirited person and like to show my talents through ‘hands on’ experiences versus writing essays. I love that I can take somethng mediocre and turn it into a dramatic and beautiful piece of art. I love seeing people SO HAPPY that you made them feel absolutely gorgeous. You can make a person’s day just by making them feel beautiful. I also realized in high school that I could not stand to do the same thing over and over again. I knew I was not going to be able to work a job where I do the same thing all day everyday for the rest of my life.

I can honestly say I’ll LOVE my job as a stylist. I get to be creative and make people feel amazing every single day and I am already obsessed with it. I work a part time job in a retail store when I’m not in school and I always say, “I’d rather be doing hair” every day at work. It’s amazing how the more I do my job, the more I fall in love with it. Another great thing about it is, I’ll never get bored with my career. I can do so many different things between make up, cutting, and coloring hair. I also love doing hair and make up for photo shoots! Don’t think that just because you’re going to hair school, you have to sit in a salon after you graduate. There are SO many options for career paths after you get your license! My passion for cosmetology is a non stop, growing passion that I know I’ll never lose.
