The Benefits of an Aveda Massage
People get massages for different reasons. Some just want to relax and get rid of stress. Others use it as physical therapy to overcome injuries. For whatever reason you choose to get a massage, the benefits go far beyond your session.
The art of massage has deep roots in science; as anatomy and physiology play big roles in the practice. Massage also has roots in spirituality, starting as a holistic treatment in Eastern medicine. For the most part, you can break down the benefits of a good massage into three main categories: mind, body and spirit.
Mind
With the fast-paced lifestyle that most Americans practice today, it’s rare that you get a moment to just relax and unplug. Getting a massage provides you with this moment. You get to lie in a dark room, turn off your cell phone, let your mind go blank and just be. Massage releases those “feel good” chemicals in your brain, making you feel better both physically and mentally. Research shows that there is a relationship between massage and self-esteem.
Body
Most people get a massage in order to make their bodies feel better. Massage releases tension in muscles, stimulates circulation, breaks up toxins and fluid, and puts most people in a great state of relaxation. Working out muscular tension is a guaranteed way to improve your overall state of being. Massage can also help people with breast cancer, diabetes, and other diseases where fluid and lymph build-up occurs.
Spirit
Since the art of massage is rooted in Eastern holistic medicine, it is a spiritual practice by default. Massage taps into philosophies and beliefs that are spiritual in nature, positioning the client in a way in which negative energy is being released from the body, and positive energy is entering it.
The art of massage is not a new practice. There are hundreds of styles of massage being practiced today, but they’re all rooted in the same place. And just as it did in ancient times, getting a massage is a great way to improve the well-being of the mind, body and spirit.
