Aveda: Divine Inspiration
Many have tried to philosophically debate one side or the other when confronted with the timeless query “Does life imitate art or does art imitate life?” At Aveda art undoubtedly imitates life! So when the question “Why is the environment so important to the Aveda brand?” is posed, the answer becomes simple- because the environment, mother nature and all of her beautiful gifts, IS Aveda. Nowhere is this more clearly stated than in the Aveda mission:
“Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility- not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.” – Horst M. Rechalbacher, Founder, Aveda
Plain and simple, without the environment there is no Aveda. That is why Aveda strives so hard to give back to the very environment from which it derives the ingredients for its natural products. At Aveda, environmental stewardship stems beyond a growing trend for being a “green company”. As a matter of fact, Aveda was “green” long before the buzzword made modern companies popular. Since 1978 Aveda has become one of the largest purchasers of certified organic ingredients, has succeeded in becoming the first company to produce products manufactured with 100% certified wind power, has effectively managed to incorporate the highest level of post consumer content in product packaging and has raised 8 million dollars for environmental and social causes.* Talk about living up to your mission! Aveda not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. Giving back to the environment has become a way of life for Aveda and it’s professionals from mandatory recycling bins in all of the Aveda salons and schools, to funding initiatives to empower the communities who share with Aveda their precious natural resources. Aveda has absolutely mastered the delicate balance needed to coexist with the world around it. This balance of give and receive not only ensures the longevity of Aveda and it’s ability to produce high quality, earth friendly products, it also aids in reassuring that the environment and all of it’s resources remain abundant for future generations to experience and enjoy. I for one am honored to be a part of such a wonderful and conscious company consisting of a network of professionals who are as enthusiastic about the world around them as they are about exercising their various art forms, talents and passions in the beauty industry. Becoming a part of the Aveda network has allowed me to grow as a spa therapist, as well as to find new avenues to give back to the world around me. It is an honor to be a part of such a company that cares not only for me as a professional, but for the quality of the product it produces as well as the communities it influences and various natural environments from which it draws divine inspiration.

Fantastic! Kudos to Aveda for incorporating ecofriendly solutions into their production.
I have been kicking around the idea of saving my hair to make into a wig. Is this something anyone else has done? Are there any tips to help this happen?
