Life and Style in St. Petersburg

by Jessica Bursic on October 26, 2010

When choosing where to go to school for cosmetology, Aveda Institute St. Petersburg was an obvious choice for me. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio and needed a big change of scenery. I started looking at schools in my hometown and instantly fell in love with Aveda. Everything about Aveda’s mission aligned with how I wanted to live my life. “At AVEDA, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility – not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.” This part of the mission spoke volumes to me. Not only did I want to make people feel beautiful, I also wanted to work with a company that cared about the environment at the same time. I have been using Aveda products forever and I truly believe in the products as well as everything Aveda stands for.

I decided that I didn’t want to spend another freezing winter up north so I immediately checked to see if there were Aveda Institutes in Florida. I was drawn to St. Petersburg for a number of reasons. I have visited the area many times on vacation with my family. Everything about St. Petersburg feels like home. It has a big city atmosphere in areas as well as a small town feeling in others. You can get anywhere in St. Petersburg within 15 minutes. The beaches are amazing and they stretch for miles. There are so many things you can do at the beach and there are all sorts of cool beach bars and restaurants to go to during the day as well as at night. There’s nothing like sitting on the beach at night watching the waves roll in.

Along with the beaches, St. Petersburg has an amazing night scene. From night clubs, to small hole in the wall bars and restaurants, there’s something for whatever you’re feeling for the moment. One cool part of St. Petersburg night life is First Friday. The first Friday of every month they block off Central Avenue and you can just walk around and go to the different bars and restaurants. There are some of the best restaurants for all different flavors on Central (as well as all over Downtown) and everything is close and within walking distance. Another thing that is pretty cool is that there is a small concert venues right downtown where they have outdoor concerts from all kinds of popular singers and bands every weekend. There’s something for everyone, and that’s one of the things I love the most about St. Petersburg.

Coming from Cleveland, I appreciate all the things we have down here in St. Petersburg so much. I know that when I would normally be stuck indoors in Cleveland because there is 12 inches of snow on the ground, I’ll be able to instead lay on snow-white sandy beaches. I also know that I made the best choice to be going to Aveda where I will be getting the best education possible and have a competitive edge over most others coming out of cosmetology school.
